Albums of 2017-part 1

Has anyone else been amazed by all the amazing music coming out this year? I remember last year talking to someone, and saying it was going to be a good music year because of all the people hinting at new albums. Turns out I was right, and it also turns out it’s even better than I thought it would be. I was making a list of all of my favorite albums that have come out so far, and I couldn’t believe how long it was. We still have a while to go in 2017, and we’ve already been blessed with so much greatness! There are still a few who have hinted at new stuff coming later this year, and I don’t even know that I can take it! Saying all of that I decided that it would be best to do album reviews in parts because 1. there is still music to come out later this year, and 2. there are so many out already which makes it a little overwhelming.

So first off can we talk about all the genius lyrics that have been put into songs this year? I love clever lyrics, and there are several artists that are blowing me away with theirs. Creativity is really shining through this year, and I feel like a lot of vulnerability has come out as well. I am loving it all so much. So I’m going to start with the first five of the albums I’m loving this year. I’ve started a Spotify playlist (Click Here), and I’ll add to it as I put up more reviews throughout the year. Be sure to check it out, and follow it so you can keep up with some really great albums.

Last Young Renegade

  1. Last Young Renegade by All Time Low

This album was slightly different than other All Time Low albums, but it also still very much has an ATL sound. While I love all of their albums, I actually think this is one of my favorites. I think its partly because I feel a lot of the lyrics go along with where I am in life right now so I can really relate to it. I’m definitely excited to hear songs from this album live.  There’s a new maturity in this album that I’m really enjoying, and it’s honestly hard to pick a favorite. I’ve changed my favorite song a few times, but I’m loving “Afterglow”, “Good Times”, and “Dirty Laundry” a lot at the moment. “Afterglow” has been my favorite since the beginning though so I guess that would be my favorite. All I can say is go listen to it all the way through, and I think you’ll understand why. Also the song “Ground Control” ft. Tegan and Sara is  so beautiful. At the moment my favorite lyrics have to be “I never want to leave this sunset town but one day the time may come an I’ll take you at your word and carry on I’ll hate the goodbye but I won’t forget the good times.” Like I said this album really seems to fit where I am in life right now, and this lyric really sinks in for me at the moment. I’ve really enjoyed this album in its entirety, and I think it’s an album everyone needs to check out. So go give it a listen because I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all.

2. Melodrama by Lorde download

I remember when “Green Light” first came out, and I was absolutely obsessed with it. I just thought it was fun, and I loved the video for it as well. Then “Liability” came out, and I knew her album was going to be great. I find myself constantly listening to “Liability”, and even after hearing all the songs I still think it’s my favorite. Remember when I said artists were being really vulnerable this year? This album has vulnerability all through it, and it’s a really beautiful thing. I’ve loved Lorde’s stuff for a while now, but this album really made me love her even more. She just has a way of making you feel her emotion, and she has something different about her. Also she worked with Jack Antonoff who is a genius artist as well so obviously it has to be a great album. My favorite lyric from this album changes a lot, but at the moment it’s from the song “Hard Feelings/Loveless.” The lyrics “I light all the candles cut flowers for all my rooms I care for myself the way I used to care about you.” That lyric just really stood out to me. I feel for me it’s like sometimes you get so stuck in making sure everyone else is happy and fine, that you forget about yourself. Then all of a sudden it hits you that you need to take care of yourself as well, and for me that’s what this is saying. Sometimes you have to let go of people who hurt you or sometimes you just have to take a break for a night to do something for you. This album is a really amazing album that I can’t get enough of, and can’t recommend enough!

3. Divide by Ed Sheeran download (1)

I feel like it’s safe to say that this album is probably at the top of the list of favorites for a lot of people. Just by looking at social media after this album came you can tell people have really enjoyed it. Ed has always impressed me with his talent. Seeing him live is a truly amazing thing so if you get the chance, take it because you won’t regret it. I wish I was hearing this album live because it’s brilliant, vulnerable, and I know it’s going to be great to hear in concert. My favorite song on the album is actually one of the deluxe edition songs “Save Myself.” It’s hard to pick a favorite though because each song on the album has something I love about it. I have 2 lines from this album that really stand out to me. The first would have to be “I gave all my oxygen to people that could breathe.” There’s something about that lyric that I find really beautiful. It’s so simple yet it says so much, and I think that’s why it I love it. The second though is “And to the next generation, inspiration’s allowed The world may be filled with hate, but keep erasing it now, somehow.” I feel like that doesn’t really need an explanation as to why I love it so much. I feel that it’s just a line that people need to hear, and live by.  This album would definitely get a 10/10 rating from me, and I can’t get enough of it.

4. Harry Styles by Harry Styles Harry-Styles-album-art-2017-billboard-1240

I think everyone was curious about what this album was going to be like. I know I was so excited to see what each 1D member would do as a solo artist, and Harry did not disappoint. I had a feeling his album would have a rock like sound because of who he said he was influenced by, and sure enough it did. I love the sound of the new album, and I’m really looking forward to getting to hear it live next year! I know a lot of people want to claim his fans just like him for his looks, but I think if they listened to the album they’d be just as obsessed as his fans. He’s a talented guy, and this album really shows that. It’s a lot of fun, and it has some really great jams on it. Once again just like all the other albums it’s hard to pick a favorite lyric because there are a lot of great one’s. I think my favorite is “When she’s alone, she goes home to a cactus in a black dress, she’s such an actress.” I don’t really know why it’s my favorite it just is. This album was a really cool album, and I’m excited for Harry’s solo career.

5. The Click by AJR

Okay so this album is where we go back to one of the earlier paragraph’s when I said something about creative lyrics. AJR are genius’ when it comes to lyrics. I’m constantly amazed by how they word stuff in their songs, and I think if you go listen to their album you’ll feel the same way. They’re just a creative group of brothers, and I see them continuing to do some really awesome stuff in their career. This is an album that makes it really hard to pick a favorite lyric or favorite song. They’re all so easy to relate to, and they’re fun as well. I guess if I had to pick one though “Turning Out” is probably one of my top favorites. It’s partly because of how much I relate to it, but also because it was one of my favorites they did live when I saw them in Atlanta. So because it’s hard to pick a favorite lyric I’ll go with a lyric from “Turning Out.” One of my many favorites from this album is “I’m a little kid, and so are you don’t you go and grow up before I do I’m a little kid with so much doubt do you want to be there to see how I turn out?” Actually I’m just going to put the link to the lyrics to that song (click here) because I’m obsessed with that whole song. This album deserves so much recognition, and I can’t say enough about it. It’s fun, emotional, something to relate to, and so well written. You should definitely go, and check it out ASAP!

I adore all of these albums, and they’re all albums I really truly feel you should give a listen to. They all come from people who have so much talent. It amazes me that this isn’t even half of the albums on my list of favorites, and yet there is so much talent in just these 5. I have a list full of other albums that I can’t wait to talk about, and so keep an eye out for more to be added to my list of favorites. Don’t forget to check out and follow the playlist for these albums so you can keep up with all the new stuff out this year.
