Valentine’s Day 101-Single Edition

Happy Valentine’s day everyone! I hope you all have the most amazing day surrounded by those that you love!

Valentines day is the day that people love, hate, or don’t care anything about. For some it’s filled with spending their day with their significant other, and then there are people like me who spend it with their cat. Some people may not like to admit it, but it can be a struggle for them because they just feel extremely alone. I’ve been there before, and used to hate scrolling through my social media feed’s seeing couple after couple. There’s nothing wrong with couples posting their cute pictures or anything, but sometimes it can really suck. Now I can feel happy for those couples when I see their pictures because I’ve found how to make the day a fun day for me. I wanted to share some of the things I do in hopes that maybe it might help you.

  1. Take the time to do something for your friends, family, or a complete stranger.

Remember when you were a kid and you’d hand out valentine’s at school? It was so simple back then because it wasn’t about being in a relationship. It was so much fun to receive all the fun little cards, and to pick out specific one’s for the people that meant the most to you. Why not get back to that? It doesn’t have to be the kid valentine cards (but those are cool too so it could be!), but just do something for someone! This year my sister and I exchanged Valentine’s gifts, and it was a lot of fun. We’re really close so we both know what each other like’s, and it was fun getting to pick out fun stuff for her!

  2. Do something for yourself!

I don’t know about you, but I always feel like there is a lot of pressure to be in a relationship. With stuff on social media like #relationshipgoals, and more. There’s also those people who ask questions like, “Do you have a bf/gf?, Are you dating?, When do you think you’ll get around to being in a relationship?, etc.” It’s so annoying to be asked those questions! Especially when it’s followed by answers like “that’s so sad.” You do NOT need to be in a relationship to be happy!  It’s okay to be single, and it’s okay to treat yourself on Valentine’s Day! Treat yourself to a face mask, get your favorite candy, eat your favorite food, watch your favorite movie! Just do something for yourself that makes you happy! There is NOTHING wrong with being single, and sometimes that’s the best place to be in life! If you start to feel down then think of all the good things about it! I promise there are so many good things about being single!

  3. Have a fun playlist!

Having a good playlist can also make things more enjoyable! Whether you’re in the mood for some sappy love songs or feel like jamming songs that are about the single life, there are songs for you! I’ve put together a short list of some of my favorites of both! I forgot to add one of my favorites to the single list, so you can click here to see the adorable “Everybody’s got Somebody but me” music video by Hunter Hayes (ft. Jason Mraz). Also I know that “Defying Gravity” isn’t a song about being single necessarily, but it’s so empowering so I’m going to count it!! (edit: just noticed I missed a word in the Little Mix song. It’s “Shout out to my Ex”)

  4. Dress in something that makes you feel good!

Wear something you love! Whether that means you want to get all dressed up or that means you want to wear sweatpants! Just put on something that makes you feel good!

  5. CANDY!!!

Here’s the part that I’m sure almost everyone can get really excited about! There is a lot of awesome Valentine’s candy out there!! The best part? It will all be on sale tomorrow!!! So go load up on all those sugary sweets!!

Obviously all of these things are things that you can do whether you’re single or in a relationship! These are just things that I do to make the day special for myself so that I can join in on the fun! I’ve also seen a lot of people talk about how the day can be sad when you’re single so I just wanted to try to help some people out! What are you doing for Valentines? Whether you’re single or in a relationship, I’d love to hear from you!

Also I decorated my room for Valentines day, and I love all the decorations so here’s some pictures! I picked up all the decorations from the Target dollar area and the dollar store, which means it basically cost me very little to add a little Valentine’s cheer! Also I’ve included a pic of the gift my sweet sister bought me!

  1. So, at work, we started handing out the kid Valentine’s to each other last year and it’s so much fun. I came in to work and had Valentine’s and candy piled on my desk and it made me so happy.
