What I’m Listening to: Sept./Oct. Edition

I’M BACK! It’s seriously been almost a month since I’ve posted. I feel so bad about that, but life has been a bit crazy recently! I’m here now though, and I’ve used that time away to work on putting together this post for you! A lot of amazing music has come out this year, and I’ve recently been trying to listen to as much of it as possible. With that thought in mind I thought I’d share what I’ve been listening to throughout September, and now into October. Some of these have just recently come out, and others are one’s that I either just found out about or just got around to listening to. Let’s get started!

Hunter Hayes

Dear God and One Shot

I’m a big fan of Hunter Hayes, and so obviously I have to talk about his new songs. I love both songs so much, but I really love “Dear God.” It’s the first song that I can think of in a long time that really grabbed me. I honestly could probably do an entire blog post on that one song. It came out at a time that I really needed it, and it has helped me a lot. I feel One Shot is the perfect accompaniment because it’s more fun. I’m definitely ready for a new album to come out soon.

As It Is

The Great Depression

To be honest I’ve always thought As It Is seemed like a cool band, but I didn’t listen to them that often. This album really sold me though. I love when a band does something that kind of throws people off. They did just that by drastically changing their appearance, and going darker than normal. As It Is also did something else that I love. They used their voices to speak out about more important matters. The Great Depression is definitely an album worth checking out. I’m still having trouble picking a favorite song, but I really love the one that’s in the video below.

Stay Down, Bite the Hand, and Me & My Dog

Julien Baker became one of my favorite artists after only listening to her once. So I was really excited when boygenius was announced. For those who don’t know, boygenius consists of three amazingly talented musicians. Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers joined together to bless everyone’s ears with some amazing music. I seriously can’t stop listening to the songs they’ve released, and you should definitely go check them out ASAP! Also through this collaboration I discovered Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers, and they also have amazing music that you should listen to. They don’t have any boygenius videos at the moment or a video of all of them together singing. However I did find this video of Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus singing “Stay Down” together at a concert.

Troye Sivan

I listened to Bloom too many times to count after it was released. It’s such a phenomenal album filled with so many great songs. I seriously don’t think he can do any wrong when it comes to music. If I had to pick one favorite though it would probably be “Dance to This” which features Ariana Grande (hint, hint for my next favorite album).

Ariana Grande

This album is an absolute bop! I literally went back and forth between her and Troye for a couple of weeks. It’s a great album for a dance party or a long drive! It’s hard to pick a favorite because I love them all. I think one of my top favorites has to be “the light is coming (feat. Nicki Minaj)” though. I’m also obsessed with “no tears left to cry.” You can listen to it by clicking the video below.

I’m almost positive I’ve talked about this album on here before. I just recently saw them live though, and so my love for the album has suddenly grown even stronger. I’ve been a fan of 5SOS for years now, but this album in my opinion is their best. There’s so much to love about it. My favorite song most definitely has to be “Babylon.” This album to me really shows people how talented they are, and I hope it continues to do well for them.

finding it hard to smile

I love lovelytheband so much! They have such a chill and fun sound. The first song I ever heard by them was “Broken” and after that I was hooked. For a long time “coachella” was my favorite song because it’s kind of whimsical like. I’ve recently become quite attached to “pity party” though. I’m really bummed I couldn’t see them when they were recently in Atlanta, and I really hope they come back soon.

Neck Deep

Torn from Songs that Saved my Life

So there’s an album coming out soon called Songs that Saved my Life. It’s an album that consists of different bands covering songs that have helped them throughout their life. Proceeds from the album will be going to different organizations that play a role in helping people with their mental health. I think all of that is amazing, and at the moment I’ve been obsessed with the one cover they’ve released so far. It’s Neck Deep covering the song “Torn” which was originally by Natalie Imbruglia. They did a great job on it, and they even redid the video which is really cool!

The Foreword

Coffee Cups & Second Shots

If you haven’t heard of The Foreword you should definitely check them out. The duo consists of Alex Crain & Maggie Schneider, and they just released an EP that I LOVE!!! Also they’re from my state, and I always love supporting local artists! So if you’re also from Georgia, and are looking to support local artists then go give them a listen! Right now my favorites are tied between “Roses” and “Worn Out Pages.” I’ve been listening to this EP a lot recently, and it’s definitely going to be one I continue to listen to a lot this fall. They don’t have any videos yet, but you can give “Roses” a listen by clicking the video below. Be prepared to get chill bumps over how absolutely beautiful the song is. Everything about it is gorgeous, and I think after you give it a listen it’s highly likely you’ll agree!

Bob Moses

Battle Lines

I’m not going to lie I’ve only gotten the chance to listen to this album a couple of times, but from what I’ve heard it’s really great. At the moment I think my favorite has to be “The Only Thing We Know.” It’s definitely an album that I would put under my fall music category so I look forward to listening to it throughout the fall. I also can’t wait to hear the songs live in a couple of weeks at their show.

The Aces

When My Heart Felt Volcanic

I just recently found out about The Aces when I saw them open for 5SOS in Atlanta. I was so impressed with them. They were only one song in to their performance, and I was running to the merch table to buy their album. I’ve listened to it so much since then. It’s a fun album filled with some pretty awesome songs. Currently my favorite is “Fake Nice” but I’m also really loving “Stay” as well.

Okay I’ve got two more albums to go, and they both were released today (10/5/18). So I’ve only given them each one listen through! I already love them both though! So here we go with the last two!

Twenty One Pilots

It’s no surprise that this album is amazing because I don’t think this band can do anything music wise that’s not amazing. I’m always impressed with everything they do because they always put so much thought into it all. I was pretty sure it was going to be a great album just from the few songs that had been released early. Anyone have those bands/artists that you feel like they reach into your own thoughts to write their music? That’s Twenty One Pilots for me. I’m constantly amazed how much their songs relate to my own life. I definitely plan to run to the store to get this album today, and it will probably be on repeat for a long while!! At the moment I’m really liking “Neon Gravestones” and “Morph.” It’s highly likely that could change though if it’s anything like their other albums. With their other albums my favorites change quite often because they’re all so great, and I’m thinking this one will most likely be that way as well.

For King and Country

Burn the Ships

My favorite Christian artists just released a brand new album, and I’m so obsessed already. I love For King and Country because they discuss topics in their music that I feel many Christian artists avoid. For myself their music is a little more relatable, and their songs are the ones I turn to quite often when I’m struggling. This album especially deals with a lot that I can relate to. They’re another band that puts a lot of thought and effort into everything they do. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to go and buy this album as well! I really wish they were coming to Atlanta so that I could hear these songs live. As I’ve already said I haven’t listened to the album multiple times yet, but currently my favorite is “Burn the Ships.” As I listen to it more that could possibly change.

That’s a wrap on the Sept./Oct. edition of what I’m listening to. I hope that maybe I was able to introduce you to some new albums/artists. Or remind you to check out an album you’ve been meaning to check out. If you’re interested in more music you can also check out my Fall 2018 playlist. It’s full of a lot of songs and artists that I’m currently loving. Some of those artists/songs made an appearance in this post, but not all of them did. A few honorable mentions of other artists I’m currently listening to and loving would be Billie Eilish, Radiohead, and Angel Olsen. I feel like I covered quite a few artists/albums, but I know that there is still a lot out there that I don’t know about or haven’t listened to. I’d love to hear from you on what you’ve been listening to and loving at the moment. So feel free to comment below with your current favorites so that I can give them a listen! Maybe they’ll end up on my next what I’m listening to post.

  1. I’m really excited about the Twenty One Pilots and For King and Country Album. I’ve listened to them a little today, but I want to listen more!!! I’ve been listening to some of my traditional fall music like Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr, Evanescence, and Celine Dion. Their music makes me feel festive and happy!
