Sunday Songs-3/14/21

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all doing well, and having a lovely Sunday! I thought that after almost a year it was time to post a Sunday Songs post again. I’ve been spending a majority of my time listening to music recently, and I thought I’d share what’s been coming through my speakers most often. From what I’m learning on guitar, to newer albums, to artists that are new to me, and to some artists that will just always have a special place in my heart. I’ve got a mixture of things to share this week that I hope you enjoy.

Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Nirvana

Nirvana’s cover of Lead Belly’s song Where Did You Sleep Last Night is probably my most played song at the moment. I’ve been learning it on guitar over the last few months which means it’s often on repeat for a couple of hours at a time. It’s a good song, and it’s been enjoyable to try to play along with.

Little Oblivions by Julien Baker

I always look forward to when Julien Baker announces she’s releasing new music, and her latest album did not disappoint. I can’t quite say I’ve listened to it enough to pick a favorite yet, but I really enjoyed the album as a whole. I definitely recommend giving it a listen.

Folklore and Evermore by Taylor Swift

I just can’t seem to stop listening to these albums. Normally I listen to new albums so much that I grow tired of them, and have to take a break. I have not reached that point with these albums though, and I listen to them constantly. I feel like if anything I’ve just grown more obsessed with them over time. I’ve been a Taylor fan from the first album, but these albums have definitely been my favorite. I’m honestly just so in awe of all of the magic that these albums bring. Her talent plus the talent of those that helped with these albums is just incredible. I’m actually listening to Willow right now in preparation for her Grammy performance tonight. I can’t wait to see what she does because I’m sure it will be phenomenal.

Mississippi by The Cactus Blossoms

If Where Did You Sleep Last Night is my most played song this is most likely my second most played song. I find myself waking up with it stuck in my head at least a couple of times a week. I’m honestly so obsessed with this duo. Their music has an older vibe that I just can’t seem to get enough of. I definitely recommend giving them a listen if you like country music, older style music, or if you’ve never heard of them and want new a new artist to check out. I have a feeling you won’t regret it.

Shade by Atta Boy

Atta Boy is another group that I’m obsessed with at the moment. I discovered them sometime last year right before they put out their latest album. I loved what I heard from their first album, and the second album was just as amazing. It was nice to discover them before the new album because it gave me something to look forward to. In a time where there seemed to be very little to be excited about this gave me some excitement. To me their music is perfect for spring/summer weather so it’s the perfect time to give them a listen.

Superbloom by Ashton Irwin

Anyone who knows me knows that Ashton is my favorite member of 5SOS so when he announced his solo album I was ecstatic. I’ve always enjoyed when he had solos on the 5SOS albums and always wished he had more than what he did. This album definitely helped to make up for his lack of solos. It was also something else to look forward to which made it even more exciting. It was well worth the wait, and I can’t recommend it enough. I just want to go on a road trip and jam this the whole way. Hopefully that will be something I can do before long.

I Feel Like Dancing by The Night Game

If you can’t tell by the name, this song is the perfect song for a dance party. I love to turn this song up loud and dance all around. It honestly seems near impossible to sit still while it’s on. I love all of the songs on his latest album, but this one is most definitely my favorite. I feel like this should be on everyone’s summer playlist as I feel everyone needs a good dance party song to complete a summer list. Happy dancing to everyone who listens to it!

Midnight Memories by One Direction

Finally, the band that will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve been in such a big 1D mood recently. It had been a while since I gave them a listen, and to be honest I forgot how many bops they have. I’m especially obsessed with Midnight Memories at the moment. It’s another great dance party/sing along song. I decided to make a playlist of all of the One Direction albums plus all of their solo stuff, and it’s definitely been one of my go to playlists recently. I miss them as a band, but I also love all of their solo stuff so much. I love that it gives them each a chance to show their own musical style. While I adore all of the solo acts, I definitely think I’d have to say Niall’s has been my favorite. So if you’re looking for a trip down memory lane I definitely recommend a 1D listening party.

That’s a wrap on this weeks Sunday Songs! Hopefully I won’t wait another year to post the next one. I hope you’ve enjoyed this weeks! Hopefully you either found something new to check out or were reminded of artists that you haven’t listened to in a bit. I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments on any of the songs/albums I recommended. I’d also love to hear your music recommendations as well so feel free to leave those in the comments. Thanks for reading! Hope you have a great week! Happy listening!
